Hello, fellow Swinburne students.
Thank you for voting me and my team as your new Swinburne Student Council members for year 2009. It was great and challenging to be competitors of Edina’s team. Perhaps, we can look forward to work together in the near future.I would also like thank all those who have supported me during this election period.
This victory alone is not the change everyone is seeking for; it is only the chance for us to make that change. The road ahead will be long but I have never been more hopeful than I am that evening that we will try our best to get there and you have my word.
There will be setbacks. There will be many who won’t agree with every decision we make. But we will always be honest with you about the challenges we face and we shall listen to you.
This is our chance to answer it all. This shall be our moment of time to put our manpower to work and open doors of opportunity;we are one;that while we’re still here, we hope; and where we are met with cynicism and doubt of those who tell us that we can’t, we will prove them wrong and say : Yes, we can.
But, above all,we will never forget who this victory belongs to. It belongs to all of you who believed and voted for us.
Thank you and good luck to all of Swinburne students in your final exams. God bless you!

Now that two campaigns have already posted their intros and slogans, I found it note worthy to remind them a few things:
Guys! We, as Swinburne Students, are tired of just listening to aimless slogans, which would be definitely forgotten or could not be fulfilled after you got elected! They are very very general and do not point to a certain problem! Let me justify my thought:
Let’s start with Alex’s:
They have come up with the following general slogans:
1. To be proactive, responsive, communicative, more transparent, and an effective advocate for the students.
(What do you mean by proactive, communicative, transparent and effective? How do you want to be like that? Describe your programs)
2. Encourage a co-operative approach to learning, living, and working together in the school community.
(Again how? Let’s say today is your first day in office! How would you start your program?)
3. Be student medium in which they can channel their views and voice their opinions.
(It is exactly the same slogan for almost every campaign, currently and in the past! Highlight your different method of bringing it to reality, if you have any!?)
4. Solve issues/problems that students have by encouraging students to participate in open meetings & discussion. (Sounds like a good idea. Describe it in detail! I’m sure you are not gonna have a meeting with 2000 students!)
5. Organize more exciting and meaningful events for students. (Like? How?)
6. Forge a closer tie among local and international students.(Hey! you do not have even one international student in your campaign! How can you claim this?)
I can see the same problems in the girls campaign’s slogans.
We do not really want to see another boring (Sorry current SSSC!) club, which is just carrying the name of Swinburne Sarawak Students Council, but is actually Swinburne Sarawak Few Students Council! I do appreciate former clubs’ hard efforts, but there are still lots of problems you guys are expected to address! The long procedure of establishing a club and getting SSSC’s financial help is one of our main issues. As a committee member of International Students club, I have personally witnessed this hectic thing when we were arranging International Students Cultural Night.
Once more, avoid historic slogans and come up with something new! Not general, but specific.
Speaking on my own behalf, I would not vote for a group which does not describe its program specifically .
Thank you

Finally!!! Our poster is finally ready to be published. So here it is; our campaign poster. =)

What I would like to point out is that to become the new president of the student council, I believe that the foremost thing to ensure is to have effective communication and also place myself in the shoes of students to understand their needs and their requests.
Being the current council member for 2008, I have learned alot from my fellow seniors, and this made me confident from the experience I have went through this year. Plus, I believe Geraldine and Chai Tyng has the utmost capability to carry out the responsibility as I have work with them before. Everytime I think of Swinburne students, I have this mindset; Kuching people are very hard to please. And this gives me the motivation to do the best to do what is best for the students!
Hence, vote for my team!! CHANGE CAN HAPPEN!!! Thanx!!!
