Dear Student
You would have read in the newspapers or heard today about a Swinburne student from Kuching having been treated for H1N1. We have since been in contact with the health authorities to gather more information on the matter.
From our records, the student concerned was formerly from Swinburne Sarawak but transferred to Melbourne in 2007. According to the Sarawak General Hospital, he arrived back here in Kuching on Friday, 19 June, and was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, 21 June. Tests conducted by the hospital yesterday confirmed that he has the virus but his condition is quickly improving.
The State Operations Room at SGH that is handling the flu pandemic does not have any information to indicate that this student has been to the Sarawak Campus since his return. So any concerns that he may have passed on the virus on campus can be safely ruled out.
We are in close contact with the health authorities and will provide full cooperation in dealing with this pandemic.

I do not know about you, but I love Swinburne’s environment when it comes to examination period. Everyone looks busy, concerned and at the same time happy to see another semester’s ending soon…
Sweaty palms, nightmares, a black-out even. Exams may cause you to experience terrible anxiety. Too much! But fear is not at all necessary. After all, our exam requirements set out exactly what you need to know and do before going in to an exam. On top of this, I give you ten tips that increase your chances of passing an exam. Take notice of these tips when preparing for your exam.
Top Ten Exam Tips
1. Be sure to use the exam requirements, recommended literature and sample exams.
2. Complete the sample exam first without consulting the answers. Then make sure to carefully read and understand the feedback.
3. Make sure to allow for plenty of time when travelling to the exam location.
4. Enter an exam well-rested.
5. Start with the easy questions. Do not get stuck on difficult ones, but put those questions aside and return to them later.
6. Often, first impressions are best. Therefore, do not change your answers unless you are absolutely certain that you have made a mistake.
7. Read the question very carefully. Consider what precisely is being asked. If the question demands four arguments, then give four, not three or five. Do not write more than required in the hope that the people marking the exams will select the correct answers.
8. The so-called ‘Open exam questions’ demand that you compose the entire answer yourself: make sure you write clearly.
9. In the case of multiple choice questions: think of your own answer first before looking at the answers listed on the page.
10. When you are finished, check carefully whether you have answered all the questions.

Once upon a time I said in my blog that it’s possible to blog to Wordpress powered blogs using MS Office 2007 and I was super excited! Now I want to share with you a newer way of blogging which is much simpler:
Using Windows Live Writer software, I am now able to blog whatever I want with a couple of clicks!
Just open the application, start typing and press the big Publish button and there you go! Insert pictures, embed videos and much more! every thing is a snap now!
This is my first post to this blog using Windows Live Writer and if you can read this and see the pictures in this post, you and me are the winners!

Here is the panoramic big group photo of all the scholarship awards receivers including the very familiar and tall Professor Helmut Lueckenhausen happened today. If there is any trouble viewing the picture, please let know.
I’m not a fan of panorama pictures but it was the only solution because I don’t have a wide angle lens. It’s just the circular panoramic perspective that doesn’t fit my taste. However, looking at the details and the pictures were taken at aperture of 5, I’m impressed*Hugs my Tammy lens*. Too bad some of the guys’ face at the most behind row were blocked by some of the guys on the second row.
I was invited by the sweeeet PR officer Ms Veronica to cover the event. It was tiring as usual when comes to event coverage photography even though it last for about two hours. Didn’t took much photos, most of them are the prize receiving portraits so not much photos to share in the blog here.
Congrastulations to those who received their awards today!

Beside computers, I am a civilian aircrafts kind of fan! Among them, I love Boeing, especially 747 and 737 series. The simply ROCK! Here is an interesting comparison I found while surfing the web and it actually makes sense:
Windows XP was introduced in 2001 and today (Apr 23 2009) nearly eight years later still is going strong in the gaming, corporate and IT world.
The original Boeing 747 was introduced in the early 1960’s and today, almost half a century later the jumbo jet is still going strong!
Very likely Boeing has said it will extend the life of the 747 perhaps up to another 3 decades by introducing the 747-8 variant (the 747-400 is the latest) and in all the 747 will have an operating lifespan of some 75+ years. That is an amazing feat if one considers the rapid pace of accelerated change the aviation community went through in its nascent years from 1903 – 1970’s.
From 1995 to 2001 in this short 6 year period MS introduced operating systems ranging from Windows 95, 98, to Windows ME, 2000 and Windows Xp… Etc
From 2001 – 2007 there was only one major operating system introduced : Vista.
As Desktop PC matured so did the evolution of the OS. Windows XP ‘works’ and like the Boeing 747, users are finding the value of sticking to it.

In recent years and with the 787 Boeing has introduced new concepts such as “flex wing”, all electric drives /engines (no more bleed, etc), cartoonish engine designs, complete fly-by-optics implementation, and in the ~censored~ it has introduced military “HUD” head-up-displays in commercial airliners, videos cameras/sensors attached to strategic places both external and internal of the airplane to allow pilots a 360 degree fully situational awareness, “touch screen” ~censored~ displays, etc etc etc….
This is going in the direction of Vista, Windows 7 and Flight Simulator X and Office 2007. Microsoft plans to bloat the newest Windows 7 even more so than Vista, plans to increase the DRM, plans to further turn the PC into a dummy locked down console and plans to restrict even more what applications, users and hardware can do. The new operating system will be the paranoid middle man that will get in the way every step of the way.. Already MS PAINT uses the dreaded and much counter intuitive “ribbon interface” from Office 2007. Pretty soon taking some text into notepad and drawing some circles in paint will require a PhD in BS.
What has the world come to? I fully plan to use Windows Xp until after 2012

Crowd cheering, running footsteps and the sound of one ball bouncing at our Multi-Purpose Hall. It’s the basketball competition organized by the Basketball Club. The event started since last Tuesday night and it’s going to end this Wedsday(15/4/09). The final is going to start around 7pm so come and enjoy the match if you wanna escape from the mid term exams/assignments stress =D
