Be more eagle-eyed on your belongings

By johnsonwoan

Attention to all Swinburne Students, please take note of this.

This incident may be totally surprised and new to many of you. Last Friday, my friend’s school bag was stolen by someone. And this someone, you will see his face in a while. My friend remembered clearly that he placed his bag on floor, at the side the pigeonhole and went into the library to have a chit chat with friends.

Moment later, when he went out to take his bag, he found his bag was no longer there anymore. Magic? David Copperfield came to Swinburne? *hmm..** Of course, when you know that your bag is lost, your initial move is definitely report directly to security guard to check through the CCTV. And yes, he did.

**waited for the rewind**

And these are the snapshots from the CCTV.

Sneak thief in red

Photobucket

Mr. Thief was on his phone while walking towards the pigeonhole.

Photobucket

On his phone again? o.O

Photobucket

This is how he looked like. PLEASE REMEMBER his face. A guy with a M shaped hair, and silver watch on his left hand.

Photobucket

And there you go. The move of the day caught in the CCTV.

People, BE EXTRA WATCHFUL with your bags now.

*sigh* Even there’s a CCTV placed in the library, it’s still NOT safe. Perhaps Swinburne Management should introduce a system whereby only Swinburne students with Swinburne ID can enter into the library.

What say you?

  1. More like we need personal lockers that are only accessible by our own new student ID.

  2. Then it will be hard, cause we have to rent the lockers and then return the keys…Someone might ‘copy’ the original keys.

  3. It’s bad to happen this kind of thing in Swinburne.

That thief is wearing a sun glasses also… I believe he came to Swinburne to steal someone’s bag on purpose.

And, I can’t see his face clearly since the photos are too blur… =.=ll
    Blame the cameras… =.=ll

  5. yea.. Should propose Swinburne management to use better CCTV, good resolution…perhaps, we should camp at library and wait for the thief to appear again. and then attack him.. lol..

  6. Oh johnson!! so its ur friend’s? bcoz that morning i walked pass the library and i heard they say the handbag is gone..!!

But you know, this thing always happened. i got my money stolen before at the old library. that time i was just a newbie in swinburne and i put my whole handbag at the pigeon hole. my purse and everything is not stolen.. but my money is all gone. almost 5 or 6 of my friends got this incident.. and we know who is the GUY.. he is always with his different ethnic gf.. humpf!!! *angry*

So after since that incident.. i NEVER put my things at the pigeon hole. even if they ask me to, i just walked in directly. HAHAHAHA! i know i m so mean. =)

  7. I normally just bring my bag in since I usually bring my laptop around. And anyways, why shouldn’t we? Unchecked books are supposed to set the alarm off as you pass through those detectors. If we stole a book, by right this system should work. And seriously, the CCTV needs to be replaced with a better quality CCTV. that kind of low quality picture is just useless in identifying culprits really.

  8. interesting. How did you get hold of the cctv screen shoots? Did you use your hand phone while the guard played the archive? I think that might be a reason why it is so blur and unclear. Was the original like that too?

  9. Wow. So this is why two police patrol cars and a team of police in sunglasses showed up in Swinburne yesterday?

    Very worrisome news! =(

  10. Well..I try not to put any valuables in the pigeon holes…just bring in the library…

snowfish on 16 September 2008 at 1:07 pm
  11. yes, those pictures are directly taken form the CCTV. Terrible quality..:( Should propose this manner to the management… IF not… **wuahahaha**

  12. So far this never happened to me.. Even though I did put my bag in the pigeon hole at the old building library, my stuff still safe ^^” Now at the new building library, I just bring my bag together with me into the library o.O And important things must be taken care of cautiously eg ask a fren to help watch over it etc etc Yea, Why CCTV can be rosak or so blur, kinda useless if we need to identify a person/thief =.=

  13. You mean he’s not a student in Swinburne but a stranger? Geez.

The librarians should allow us to bring our bag into the library. If not, what’s the security sensor for? This is one thing I do not understand.

My opinion, Librarian do not allow students to bring big bag in (which is without laptop) is because, they might steal something in library, such as other people belongings that are on table or any other things that will not detected by the library unchecked books detector…
    What you guys opinion?
Sometimes, I will think twice before i left my stuff in the library for toilet…
Any advice or suggestion, when we are in the library, should we bring along ALL our stuff just for going toilet?? Or is there any idea how to deal with that, without being worried of our stuff left….

Lestari on 17 September 2008 at 10:58 am
  15. @Lestari – Some sort of free “Locker” service (If can be made available) would be an ideal option. But at the time being i guess..The only option is to ask your friend or someone whom you trust to look after your things ..while you are away..

    Any other option?

Saad Kamal on 17 September 2008 at 11:03 am
  16. hmm.. i have no idea…..:(

johnsonwoan on 17 September 2008 at 5:46 pm
  17. wow!! les les was here! hahaha! hmmm.. i think ask ur fren to look after will be a better choice coz if there are free lockers.. it will never be enough for everyone… and people are lazy you see.. >.< "

WoonYien on 18 September 2008 at 2:41 am
  18. Ya…i think one of the way is only like that…But sometimes i get confuse, when i’m just alone in the library….sigh…

Lestari on 18 September 2008 at 1:19 pm
  19. Position security guards in the library! :D

There are plenty of security guards around Swinburne, anyway. Besides, people may steal stuffs without their bags. They still got their hands without the bags.

Ya, just like small stuff like HDD and flashdrive or some sort. So every place always put a sign…”Put /Bring it at your own risk!”
Geez…there is no place safe these days, even in our home.
Flash drive and HDD owners should be careful when bring them around coz almost every people like to ‘pick them up’ and keep them as their own.
Imagine, 8GB flash drive… on the floor… most people will want to keep it.

    mrmoi88 on 20 September 2008 at 11:04 am
  21. i think the best solution is don’t bring anything to school… and nothing will be stolen away. lol.. okay, i know it’s lame. -__-”
